We Asked Strangers: “What’s an NFT?”

An NFT is a digital token of information (data) that lives on a blockchain. Each NFT has its own identification code and metadata. As a result, NFTs are unique and non-interchangeable i.e., they are “non-fungible.” The data an NFT contains can be tied to digital files like photos, poems, songs, albums, videos, avatars, and more.

If you’re an avid nft now reader, or simply someone who has a passion for Web3, you probably already know that.

However, NFTs are still quite new, in the grand scheme — to put it into perspective, Bored Ape Yacht Club has barely been around a year. Though they’ve been featured on Jimmy Fallon, tweeted about by Elon Musk, and promoted by Paris Hilton, NFTs still aren’t exactly mainstream.

To gauge the public’s awareness of NFTs, we took to the streets of New York City to interview strangers, models, and even the Naked Cowboy. Here’s what we learned.
